Our Baby Eczema Essentials + How I Pack Light for Outings

Managing baby eczema and staying on-the-go isn’t always easy — but with the right essentials and a simplified baby bag, it gets a whole lot more doable. Over time, I’ve found gentle products that actually help my baby’s sensitive skin and a minimalist packing routine that keeps us ready without the chaos. Here’s what we use and how I pack it all up.

My Eczema Go-Tos (Items I Can Trust)

1. A Cleanser That Doesn’t Fight

A lot of other cleansers claimed to be gentle on skin but caused my baby major flare ups. We now use Vanicream but it took us a while to get here. Every baby is different but this is a good place to start! You can even keep a travel-size version of this in a mini bottle just in case you need to freshen up.

2. The Moisture Shield I Swear By

This thick, balm-like cream feels like it’s hugging my baby skin — especially when the air is dry or I’m running errands in a rush. Vanicream body cream is our current go to.

Another great combo before we had to switch due to more intense eczema was coconut oil, honest lavender chamomile and aquaphor. *chefs kiss*

3. Spot Saver: My Flare-Up Fix

I prefer natural products as a mom, but my situation required a more aggressive approach. We keep our pediatrician prescribed topicals handy in case of emergency.

4. Aquaphor or Vassaline

A tiny tin of my holy grail balm — works for dry lips, itchy patches, and even baby’s cheeks if needed.

My Minimal Baby Bag Checklist (With Room to Breathe)

For Baby’s Skin & Comfort:

• Aquaphor (for eczema relief)

• Soft cloth for dabbing skin or cleaning up

• Plastic bag (for dirty clothes or diapers)

Swaddle/muslin blanket

• Extra onesie

Bib + burp cloth

Feeding Essentials:

• Bottle

• Formula container or extra breast milk to go in a small bottle (pre-measured: 2oz + 4oz)

• Water

Diapering Basics:

• 2 diapers

• Travel wipes (gentle/fragrance-free) – we love Water Wipes

• Disposable changing pads – our go to

• Hand sanitizer

Extras for Peace of Mind:

• Toy (not necessarily a teether but can be) – baby loves lovevery toys to go and their stroller toy 🤍

• Lip gloss (because you deserve to feel put-together too) Laneige my all time fave!

You can certainly keep more essentials in the car to be on the safe side. This works for us when we have outing of 3 hours or less.

What are your on-the-go must-haves for baby — or for your own peace of mind? Let me know in the comments!
